Meeting Reports
|
Oct 6, 2022

Summary
The long-awaited International Society for Research on Emotion Conference held July 15-18 at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, brought a fresh air of connectedness and enthusiasm for in-person academic meetings, with over 400 people attending and discussing their ideas and projects at a range of symposia, individual and flash talks and posters. From a philosophical perspective, this was an excellent opportunity to learn about new developments in emotion research, to reflect on the role of philosophy in interdisciplinary research, and to discuss the extent and the way in which the philosophy of emotions can be positively informed by empirical sciences and also whether traditional philosophical questions require interdisciplinary solutions. With generous support from institutions that include The Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute, ISRE 2022 was a great success, offering an important contribution to the promotion of an interdisciplinary cooperation between philosophy and other disciplines, including neuroscience, AI computer and medical sciences, thus strengthening interdisciplinary connections between the computational and human sciences of emotion.
