Summary

On Thursday July 21st, 2022, the NeuroTechnology Center at Columbia University hosted its second annual symposium on nanoscience and neuroscience: NanoNeuro 2022. Unlike other symposia which focus on one field or discipline, NanoNeuro brings together scientists from a myriad of disciplines and from across the world to examine the rich intersection of nanoscience and neuroscience. Hundreds of leading scientific minds as well as members of the general public gathered on Zoom for a day of insightful talks, which were generously sponsored by the Tianqiao & Chrissy Chen Institute. The conference was hosted by Dr. Rafael Yuste of Columbia University and Aitzol García Etxarri of the Donostia International Physics Center.

NanoNeuro 2022 is the 16th meeting that the NeuroTechnology Center at Columbia University has presented. The Center is focused on innovation for a purpose – it started a decade ago with the announcement of the White House Brain Initiative by President Barack Obama, who declared that its goal was to image the structure of the brain. Nanoscience is needed to create the technologies necessary to accomplish this goal. For the last 20 years, nanoscientists have created new materials (particles, probes, etc.) that can be applied to neuroscience methods.
